21 Years

Rick (Founder, MD, chupaholic) is a man with several heartfelt missions: Family, Staff, Customers, Great Sauces and the hundreds of rescued animals now living ‘the easy life’ in the paddocks and walled gardens behind The Old Stables – home to Stokes for the last 21 years.

Master of Mayo

The quest for Great Taste began in 2004 when Rick Sheepshanks founded Stokes with quality Mayonnaise as his primary goal.

This was followed quickly by Tomato Ketchup – so good it was the only way he got his daughter to eat vegetables. By developing precious home-grown recipes; sourcing the finest ingredients; and supporting our kitchen teams with technology and technique, we achieved that difference as you’ll see when you meet – The Classic Trio – PLUS One.

The Long Road

The long road takes you across rich Suffolk farm land to Rendlesham Hall and The Old Stables – home to the magic, home to the saucery. It is impossible not to smile as you arrive here to be heralded by a chorus of rare breed sheep, cattle and peacocks. Hens and chicks of all colour, shape and size scurry about the place.

Curious goats run to the fence so see what’s going on, free from all worries, though rather confused by the antics of their rare breed forklift neighbours.Great taste needs great, uncompromising ingredients.

The product range started to grow and the quality refined by using the finest ingredients for home grown recipes and excellent, small-batch cooking techniques.

The team has grown over the years but we are so proud to say that so many now, were with us from the outset – hearts, heads, and souls are truly part of the general ingredients.Take a look at the actual ingredients on  the side of our iconic bottles and jars and you’ll see very little that’s unnatural – very few additives.

Compassion goes way beyond the love of great food.Rick’s passion for quality matched his compassion, giving shelter to rescue animals. The menagerie at Rendlesham has grown to over 250 happy pigs, sheep, cattle, wallabies, emus & rheas, goats, ducks, cats, dogs, and lucky hens.

A new look for 2010.

Time for a redesign to enter our 10th year. The fresh look, distinctive style, strong branding and informative packaging make Stokes the new favourite in shopping baskets across the country and beyond.

Some of you sharp-eyed patrons will have noticed that we are at it again, with a fresh look gradually being introduced for our 21st year.We are very proud of our British heritage, in  turn supporting British producers wherever we can. Everything we make, is made right here in Suffolk.

We are equally proud of the responsibility we take for our role in matters environmental.

Passion, from A to Z.

BREAKFASTS

Shake, spoon and drizzle your favourite sauce on, beside or as an ingredient in your breakfast.Try a little of our garden sweet Mint Sauce combined with mayo in your smashed avocado for  the golden yolk to dribble over.

That’ll brighten your morning up.Simpler still – are you red or brown sauce with a bacon batch? That would be Real Tomato Ketchup, (thick with 200g of tomatoes reduced into every 100g of ketchup) or Real Brown Sauce ( sweet with date purée, black treacle & our unique blend of heady Persian spices – truly grownup!)Baked Eggs or Shakshuka.

Shakshuka is a dish of baked eggs in a spicy tomato sauce, believed to have originated in North Africa. Peppers, tomatoes, spices and chilli create an intense sauce on which eggs are cracked to finish off baking in the oven.

Chef, Andy has a wonderful recipe for his Bakes Eggs, which you can enjoy – HERE.

I like it a little hotter than Andy, so add Habanero HOT Sauce to the Bloody Mary Ketchup – the perfect brunch.Any time, any day, but only one ketchup!!!
